  • A Night At… is a company based in San Diego County, California. Our murder mystery evenings are available to anybody living within this region.

  • Our murder mysteries are intimate affairs and the entire evening takes place around a dining table. Usually, these events would take place at the home of one of the invited guests. However, other potential venues can be discussed, in conjuction with the Detective.

  • Our murder mysteries are designed to be enjoyed by a small group of invited guests. The majority of our murder mysteries cater for six suspects. However, in most instances, this number can be reduced to a minimum of five guests and to a maximum of seven guests. Details of this can be found in the description of each of the murder mysteries that we offer.

  • Our murder mysteries last a minimum of three hours and up to a maximum of four and a half hours, depending on the specific murder mystery that you choose and the number of guests that are invited.

  • The murder mystery stories that we offer are all set in the first half of the Twentieth Century, from approximately 1910 through to 1950.

  • Yes. The Detective will e-mail each of your guests with their costuming instructions for the evening. This e-mail is usually sent out about two weeks prior to your murder mystery event, in order to allow your guests sufficient time to source their costume for the evening.

  • Strictly speaking, no. Dinner is not usually served at our murder mystery events. However, we do encourage the hosts to provide a selection of light snacks, which can be kept on the dining table throughout the murder investigation, which guests can help themselves to as they wish. We encourage all guests to bring a contibution towards the evening’s beverages.

  • No, we don’t use actors. Other than the Detective, who is leading the murder investigation, your invited guests become the actors.

  • Our murder mystery events take the form of an immersive murder investigation, in which each guest will be playing one of the potential suspects. Through several rounds of interactive questioning, your guests will reveal their stories and their possible motivations for wanting to have committed murder.

  • Whilst each guest is encouraged to commit to their character as fully as possible, acting ability is by no means essential! Guests will be provided with detailed documents pertaining to their character and the events that have unfolded.

  • No. Whilst it is important that guests embody their character, to the best of their abilities, they are not required to memorise information and are encouraged to use the documentation provided, when expressing themselves.

  • Before the murder mystery event, each of your guests will receive an e-mail, which will give them detailed information about the character that they will be portraying. However, all of the guests will be assuming that they are innocent throughout the majority of the investigation. Towards the end of the proceedings, each guest will privately discover if they are innocent or guilty, at which point the guests will have to use their powers or intuition and deduction to uncover which guest is being deceptive.

  • The cost of booking one of our murder mysteries varies depending on the number of guests that attend the evening - although, typically, the evening would cost $200 per head. The individual cost of your event can be discussed by contacting the Detective.
